“It's not just a hobby. It's a K9 lifestyle."

Dog sports are comprised of many trained behaviors grouped together. Your dog walking on a loose leash, lying down, jumping over an obstacle, sitting in front of you, and coming when called are behaviors performed at home every day. These are also behaviors seen in dog sports. Thousands of trained and instinctive dog behaviors are segregated into different sports.  For example, we know that a dog scales an "A-frame" in agility and works their “scent articles” in obedience; jumping a jump could be in rally, and finding the box which contains an odor is scent work. Thinking of the skills in terms of sports introduces us to dog training vernacular.

Training dogs to learn is akin to building a house. And, like a house, dogs are best when having a solid foundation in basic skills. To ensure that you prevent gaps in the learning process, it is highly recommended that every dog and handler complete the Core Foundations classes. Doing so will give you and your dog a jumpstart in defining and developing a positive relationship. Your dog will begin to understand how to learn with you as the teacher and quickly understand behaviors designed to make life at home and in public far more pleasurable. We will introduce go-outs, holding dowel rods, touch, short jumps, agility flatwork, and rally handling skills. From there, go ahead and branch out by enrolling in Rally, Scent Work, or Agility class! Your dog will have all the skills necessary to be successful, and you will enjoy watching your dog develop new proficiencies. High IQ K9 Sports Center provides options for everyone who wants to enrich their dog’s life beyond the basics.
